new year

happy new year! i was planning to post something before the end of the year, but missed the chance. my scanner just gave up on me, and these are from the last strips i scanned as a contact print. i got a chance to go on a photo walk with a bunch of talented photographers in tokyo just before christmas. hope to be able to go out with them again.

#update: scanner fixed. did a patch-up job, but hey, it works. i can scan my film again! need to study first though... =(

浜降祭 (photos)

been scanning the past few days. the films have been hanging almost a week so i had to file them. the first few shots were with a 50mm, the others with a 25mm. kinda different style of shooting with the 25mm. i was right next to the subject.
if you could see, the first shot is at 4:20 am. the last one was sometime past 6. (my camera could record the time at the edge of the film, but usually doesn't cooperate, so for 2 or 3 rolls, it didn't record the time. and even for those rolls that it decided to record the time, it doesn't like doing so for all frames.)

next blog may be from the recent fireworks... or maybe not... off to aomori nebuta (青森ねぶた) tomorrow.

浜降祭 (contact prints)

i found an easier way to make contact prints. i was using my film scanner but it was too slow and kept hanging on me. i now switched to my flatbed scanner which can take 4 strips at once. it's a bit lower resolution, but does the job faster. i'll be using my flatbed scanner from now. i might go back to my film scanner when i get a faster computer.

p.s.
made me think to stop having contact prints made altogether when i have my color negatives developed by photo labs.

mad hettie

i've suddenly had time to scan my backlog of film. this was from a year ago.
the girl somehow reminds me of mad hettie in 'death : the high cost of living', though i am still debating in my head if she looks more like mad hettie, or death...

developments

been busy lately with other things... been wanting to post this for 2 weeks, now i think the excitement has died.

anyway, i finally gave in. this is from my first self-developed roll. (note to self : may 9) tim and jono must be sniggering they have a new convert. now just waiting for ken's turn...

i still think it is too cumbersome to do it. it is still much easier to just drop it off some lab, though it does cost less, and you don't have to wait for several days to get your film back.

i have developed 6 other rolls since. i'll post some when i get the time to scan them. a lot of them were underexposed though, not because i made a mistake in developing, but more on my laziness to rely on auto exposure from the camera, rather than exposing manually.
